Salute to my Hermano

So here’s a few words from your kid brother
If you admire somebody you should go ahead and tell um
People never get the flowers while they could smell um
A ideal in my eyes, God of the game
Heart of the city,Rockafella chain

Yesterday my hermano Dionne left for basic training. It still hasn’t hit me but when it does…I know it’s going to hit me hard. I was looking forward to making ‘power moves’ and celebrating life this summer with my brother, but there’s plenty of summers left! Dionne is one of those rare individuals you met that everyone loves. He’s a man with both respect and love. Perhaps the hardest working man I know and someone who truly gives before they receive.

I first met Dionne back when I was in 6th grade and he was a freshman. He was my older Brother Jose (another man I truly admire; blog post on that later) best friend. We were hanging out at the mall and two thoughts came to mind; 1. Man this guy is cool and funny 2. This man is optimistic about everything and seems to be happy about everything. At the time, I didn’t think much of it but over time, I realized this very much the kind of person he is. Overtime, I started getting to know Dionne and we quickly became family.

As some of you know, when I was going through high school, I wasn’t in a good place with myself and was making some poor decisions (You can read more about that here). It’s cause Dionne, that I changed my actions around and started chasing my dreams. But this happened all without him ever telling me to change my act around or to tell stop what I was doing. Dionne is a man who leads by example. Dionne has overcome many setbacks in life and has a moving story of how he was able to be valedictorian of his HS alum and get a full ride to the UofM. Yet very few know this because Dionne is a man of optimism and believes that he deserves no honor, that he simply does what he believes is right and works with what he’s given.

By no means was I ever under privilege or over privilege but I had (have) many opportunities in my blessed life, that many may never have or ever will. I always had ambitious dreams but like many, I almost gave up on those, because I didn’t believe that dreams could become realities. A foolish mistake of mine, here’s Dionne a man who had very little but yet was doing great things in life and always had a smile on his face. It’s because of Dionne that I chase my wildest dreams and refuse to give up on them.

But Dionne didn’t just give me motivation to work towards my dreams. He gave me a different perspective on life. To live life to the fullest and make the most of everything, view trials as a blessing be thankful for those in my life. I carry these values close to my heart and have the most utter respect and love for D-Griffo the TC Kiddo. People are always confused when we say we’re brothers but there’s a quote I love about friendship; “Family that you choose”, except Dionne is defiantly family and has Mexican in his blood veins lol! Cheers to the future my brother.

Stay safe hermano and best of luck…

One love

D-Griffo
